DataSeer and Silverchair partner to automate data availability checks at ScholarOne

Silverchair + DataSeer

DataSeer and Silverchair are excited to announce a new partnership agreement. The relationship will make the AI-powered editorial screening tool DataSeer SnapShot available to journals using ScholarOne Manuscripts, a leading scholarly publishing workflow management system.

Journal editorial policies are evolving in response to emerging best practices and rising fraud. That leaves journal offices facing an overwhelming volume of complex and time consuming manuscript checks. The integration of SnapShot and ScholarOne will mean affordable, built-in automated screening for data availability and other key editorial office and open science checks, leading to faster, more efficient, and more consistent triage of submitted articles.

DataSeer SnapShot works by scanning the full text of research articles against each journal’s specific policies in areas like data availability, code sharing, protocols, PID use, preprints, and more. It performs sophisticated, multilevel checks in moments, and returns a top level summary of actions required backed by itemized reporting. For example, SnapShot can tell not just whether a Data Availability Statement is present, but whether it is accurate — if links resolve to data in a journal-approved repository or if unshared data actually meets requirements for exclusion. SnapShot also triages manuscripts, routing those that fulfill policy on to peer review faster, and prepares customized author-ready revision feedback to help authors achieve publication success.

SnapShot complements ScholarOne’s existing highly configurable best-practice workflows. “Scholarly journals are trapped between a rock and a hard place: Told on one hand that more checks are needed to ensure quality, and on the other that the editorial process is introducing delays and slowing science. Thoughtful automation offers a sustainable way to address both problems,” said DataSeer founder and CEO Tim Vines. “Modern AI is excellent at performing precise, detailed, often repetitive tasks rapidly and accurately. That frees up journal teams for the work they are best at.” Ultimately, that means more editorial time and resources go to tasks that require experience, expertise, and creativity — rather than to routine and repetitive manuscript screening.

Through our partnership with Silverchair, DataSeer is working to empower scholarly publishers, helping them meet the rising challenges of the current moment with technologies developed specifically for their unique workflows, needs, and concerns. We look forward to sharing our progress early in 2026 as the integration goes into effect.
