2024 marked DataSeer’s fifth birthday. Tim Vines founded the organization in 2019 on a simple idea: why not have artificial intelligence perform tedious data policy compliance checks? That vision led to the development of Compliance Checks, DataSeer’s premier product, which analyzes individual manuscripts and generates a detailed report with customized advice to help authors fulfil policy requirements. Five years on, the organization has grown to include diverse products, a larger team, and dozens of partner organizations including funders, publishers, and institutions.
We have a lot to celebrate from this past year. Here are just three of the many stand-out moments from 2024…
We introduced DataSeer SnapShot
In 2024 we expanded our product portfolio with DataSeer SnapShot, a real-time scan that allows journals to triage manuscripts for research integrity. SnapShot integrates seamlessly with the platforms publishers rely on to track submissions and orchestrate peer review. It scans manuscripts in seconds and scores each on transparent research practices such as data sharing, code sharing, protocol sharing, and adherence to reporting standards.

We built new partnerships across scholarly communications
Our aim is to advance research integrity by surfacing data, showing researchers how to comply with policy, and providing just-in-time interventions. We do that in close cooperation with the scholarly communications community: funders, publishers, institutions, associations, libraries, advocacy organizations, platform providers, and others. This year, we’re proud to have built new relationships with partners including Center for Open Science, Silverchair, KnowledgeWorks Global, Taylor & Francis, AAAS, Kriyadocs, University of Sussex, Royal Society, and IOP.

We had the opportunity to exchange ideas at conferences and meetings
In 2024, our founder and CEO Tim Vines and Partnership Director Adrian Stanley attended an array of meetings, among them STM Innovator Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, PublisherSpeak, Silverchair Platform Strategies, ISMTE, SSP, and others. The chance to meet and interact with our community brings so much creative inspiration and collaborative spark to our work.

Coming up in 2025
The year ahead promises to be just as eventful. SnapShot will appear on several partner systems early in the new year. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to develop and refine the underlying code to meet a variety of policy rubrics and use cases. We also look forward to supporting our U.S. institutional partners through policy compliance audits and targeted researcher-facing guidance in the lead up to the December 31 2025 Nelson Memo deadline. And – of course – we’ll keep innovating with partners like PLOS and Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s to help them reach their open science and research integrity goals.
Here’s to a year filled with data, insight, innovation, and collaboration!
