The why and how of sharing data and code at The American Naturalist

We’ve been working with The American Naturalist for almost six months, and recently took the opportunity to contribute to a document laying out the how’s and why’s of their data and code policy. The piece itself is available here – it covers five different areas:

  1. The value of Data and Code archiving
  2. Problems with the current data of data sharing
  3. New procedures to check the quality of data sharing
  4. Future needs
  5. Conclusions

As you might expect, we had the most input on section 3! It’s been really interesting to work with Dan Bolnick (Am Nat’s Chief Editor) and Bob Montgomerie (their lead Data Editor) on both putting this document together and on working out the most efficient way for DataSeer to help them with promoting open data and open code.
